Effect of growing location on anthocyanin content and total antioxidant capacity of haskap (Lonicera caerulea L.) berry: A preliminary investigation

The haskap has been successfully cultivated in many geographical zones Canada. We investigated whether the latitude any impact on anthocyanin accumulation and total antioxidant capacity berry. measured quality attributes were compared with that of blueberry. Haskap 'Aurora' berries collected from Yukon, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia Canada, blueberries Scotia. Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), most abundant berry, anthocyanins, polyphenols, soluble solids (°Brix), pH value, capacity, moisture content determined. results revealed anthocyanin, phenolic content, range between 88 to 273 mg C3GE/100 g fresh weight (FW), 256 442 GAE/100 FW, 27 52 µmol TE/g respectively. liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) analysis C3G contained berry is highly dependent harvest stage. Among samples, harvested July 19, 2019, Yukon had highest content. Interestingly, comparable lowbush blueberry, but higher than highbush A systematic multi-year experiment employing cultivars growing locations recommended better understand effect.
